This workshop has been developed by the PEER team focused on the needs of primary care providers – who need to effectively synthesize vast quantities of information quickly. Participants will be introduced to concepts necessary for practicing Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) effectively and efficiently within a clinical setting including:

Randomized controlled trial and systematic review design.

Absolute versus relative risk reduction and numbers needed to treat.

Confusion (confidence) intervals and p-values.

Statistical versus clinical relevance.

Minimal clinically important differences.

Furthermore, you will be introduced to reliable filtered sources of evidence and clinical decision aids that can be integrated into a demanding clinical practice.  By the conclusion of this workshop, you will have developed a heightened sense of confidence in applying EBM principles to your daily practice. This includes the proficient use of evidence in facilitating shared decision-making processes with your patients. Our aim is to empower you with the knowledge and skills to enhance the quality of care you provide, ensuring that it is grounded in the best available evidence.

The EBM workshop qualifies for Physician Practice Improvement Program activity within the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
